About us

Hello! We are Andrew and Emma. Together we are Miscellaneous Adventures. Based in the Lake District, we are craftspeople, photographers, conservationists and slow adventurers.

For 11 years we lived in the woods of Sussex where we discovered a new way of living and developed a deep relationship with Nature that led us on a wild journey of discovery and adventure. Now, we weave the lessons we learned in the woods and the many strands of the work we do into the mountains and valleys of our new home here in the Lake District.

We believe in living simply, taking it slow, considering Nature with deep reverence and curiosity, finding joy and adventure in everyday life and encouraging others to do the same.

You find out much more about us and our story by listening to our Podcast or visiting our website.

What do we write about here on Substack?

The Miscellaneous Adventures Digest is a weekly roundup of all things Miscellaneous Adventures including: Nature observations, musings on the relationship between Nature and society and tales of our adventures here in the Lake District and further afield. These posts are mainly written by Andrew and go out every Friday.

Our ‘Nature Happenings’ posts go out fortnightly and are written by Emma. This is where we share more on the things we have seen happening in Nature over the previous two weeks; from plants and flowers to creatures and habitats. We will also share recipes and information on foraging, wild medicine and plant use.

Both publications invite curiosity for the natural world, offering a platform for us to gently ponder how we fit into the equation as we navigate a world increasingly disconnected from Nature. We welcome and encourage comments, knowledge sharing, questions and community, so please don’t hesitate to get involved in anyway you see fit!

With warm wishes,

Andrew, Emma and Benji
