Come on a Slow Adventure with us!
We're hosting a hike and camp in the Lake District and we'd love to see you there...
Happy equinox! We interrupt our usual schedule this week to bring you news of a new workshop that we are offering this summer here in the Lake District, UK.
We would love to spread the word far and wide about this workshop, so please do share with your networks, it’d be hugely appreciated!
This August (17th & 18th), we’re excited to be hosting a Slow Adventure Hike and Camp in the Lake District, and we’d love you to come along! We’ve teamed up with our good friend, Clare Dyson, aka The Horseback Adventurer to help us guide a small group on this journey of discovery and Nature connection.
Andrew wrote in more detail last week about what slow adventure means to us, so please do go and read that if you are wondering ‘what on earth is a slow adventure?!’ but in a nutshell, for us, to go slow in the outdoors, rather than racing to the finish or summit, is an act of defiance, a radical stand against normality, a way of reclaiming joy and finding connections in an often chaotic world.
We want to share this way of adventuring and help bring about a quiet, slow adventure revolution!
“Sounds brilliant! Tell me more!”
Sure. The workshop will look something like this:
We’ll walk together through a variety of landscapes, taking time to notice the details. We’ll point out fascinating interconnections, forage and learn about medicinal plants, ponder interesting features of the landscape, contemplate deep time, geology and the forces that created it, tracing echos of wind and water. We’ll take time to breathe, to sit, to swim, to study maps and to feel part of the landscape.
Notebooks will be provided in which to collect observations, make drawings, write words and collect specimens. We’ll learn how to identify plants using field guides, taking our time to study features in detail. We’ll gather plants for a wild first aid kit and learn how to use them. There will be stops for snacks, to brew warming drinks and experiment with wild tea tasting.
As evening falls we will make our way down into the valley and our camp for the night on a beautiful nature friendly farm. Here we will cook up a hearty dinner as we relax, enjoy our surroundings as the light fades, and enjoy views of the spectacular star filled night sky before heading to sleep.
“I’m in! Where do I sign up?!”
