We were out for a walk at the weekend in the woods not far from us and we were delighted to see swathes of wood anemones. I’ve always loved their delicate white flowers and the serrated leaves remind me of parsley (but I’m aware of their toxicity). Another lovely post
I knew about Substack venturing into the world of short note format but haven’t yet dipped my toes in. One can only hope that it could be a more creative and less toxic alternative to Twitter et al 🤔 if I ever find time to check it out 😂
I was very excited to see yellowhammers on my walk this morning. I’m not sure I’ve seen them before, or if I have it was back when I wasn’t sure what I was seeing! Yes I’m also cautious about Notes as I came to Substack to escape social media. But to me it feels friendlier, safer and less demanding (ad-free) than social media so I’m ok with it so far! I’ve found some great new writers to follow through it.
Ah, yellowhammers are beautiful. Where was that? I don't see them very often. Glad to hear you've had a positive experience with Notes so far! I think we need to figure out how we can get it to work for us rather than allowing it to make us work for it.
Yes to your feelings about Notes: it feels contrary to what I like about Substack (reading things that are more than a few hundred characters; connection over consumption). I’ll not be checking it a lot I think (the few times I did I ran away overwhelmed) though I’ll probably experiment with sharing my own posts on Notes a couple of times. Have a good weekend (and do continue with the weekend updates, I love reading your adventures) ✨
Thanks Astrid! Yes, I'm sure many people feel the same way too. I hope this space doesn't become just another quest for likes and engagement. We are always torn with new features, if we don't use them will we be left behind? For now we're just going to focus on writing our newsletter and will perhaps use Notes to share links and things that don't fit. Happy to hear you like reading the weekend updates!

Thank you for the weekend adventure notes and please don’t stop! It’s like therapy for the soul and mind🙏💚
