Thanks Bel, appreciate your feedback! It’s funny how attached we get to certain things - my old boots have a lot of memories associated with them. Looking forward to making new memories in these new ones...

I enjoyed how you incorporate the gear review into the story! I'm not familiar with those brands of boots. I don't think they are available in the US. However, the concept is spot on! I use Solomon brand boots. I used a very solid and sturdy model for a while and when I transitioned to a lighter one the difference was very noticeable. I don't think I really need the ankle support, so I might go down to a low rise hiking shoe next.

Thank you Erik, I appreciate the feedback on this. It was a bit of an experiment - I'm not sure whether this is the right place for gear reviews or not, but it doesn't hurt to try these things! I really enjoy the new Hanwags, looking forward to some longer, lighter days to test them on multi day outings...

I think occasional gear reviews fit in very well here. You're clearly putting the stuff to its intended use repeatedly! And again, I think you did very well in making the review part of the story. It didn't feel advertisey (pretty sure that's not a word) at all!
