Lovely evocative writing Andrew. My Dad was a Carpenter and my earliest memories are of him returning home smelling of wood shavings. When I left school at 16 I began working as an apprentice in horticulture for the Manchester Parks Department and I grew to love trees and developed an appreciation for them as more than just a utilitarian material for production and consumption. Wood worked by hand is always far superior to machine worked wood - keep up the good work!
